“World Soil Day-2024” was celebrated on the theme of "CARING FOR SOILS: MEASURE, MONITOR, MANAGE" by AICRP on IWM, CAET, JAU, Junagadh on December 5, 2024.
"World Soil Day – 2024"was celebrated on 05.12.2024 by ICAR sponsored All India Coordinated Research Scheme (AICRP) on Irrigation Water Management (ICAR), College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, Junagadh Agricultural University, Junagadh. Total 250 students and 15 faculties, 05 technical/supporting staff have participated in the said event.
At the first outset, Dr. H D Rank, Principal & Dean, CAET, JAU, Junagadh welcomed Hon. Vice Chancellor Dr. V P Chovatia saheb and other dignitaries on the dais, HoDs, faculties and students.
The said event was inaugurated and presided over by Dr. V P Chovatia saheb, Hon. Vice Chancellor, JAU, Junagadh. Dr. R B Madariya, Director of Research & Dean, PG Studies and Dr. N B Jadav, Director of Extension Education, JAU, Junagadh has graced the function. They inspired and motivated both students and faculty with their valuable guidance. Dr. T D Mehta, HoD-FMPE, Dr. V K Chandegra, HoD-AEEE, Dr. M S Dulawat, HoD-REE, Dr. N K Dhamsaniya, Principal, Polytechnic-PAE, Dr. G V Prajapati, Chief Scientist, AICRP-PEASEM and other faculties of CAET, JAU, Junagadh remained present.
Dr. V P Chovatia,Hon. Vice Chancellor, JAU, Junagadh, in his inaugural/presidential address, highlighted the importance of soils for the food production. In his address, he emphasized the critical role of soil in food production. He expressed concern over soil degradation and the decreasing availability of arable land per capita in India. During his address, he recalled quotes from the Dalai Lamaji and Sadhguruji, emphasizing the importance of soil and nature conservation. He remarked that soil is not our property but a legacy entrusted to us. He also highlighted that the foundation of all goodness lies in appreciating the soil and its contributions. He urged faculty members and students to adopt precision farming techniques to conserve and enhance soil health.

Dr. H D Rank, Chief Scientist, AICRP-IWM & HoD- IDE/SWCE and Principal & Dean, CAET, JAU, Junagadh made brief presentation on importance of theme "CARING FOR SOILS: MEASURE, MONITOR, MANAGE" of World Soil Day – 2024, objectives of celebration of the world soil day, importance of soil health for the food securities, extent and distributions of soil types in India, present status and issues of ever increasing populations, per capita land resources availabilities in past, present & future., food requirements as per ICMR and productions for the India and World.
